    Strawberries as a Power Diet Food

    The Sonoma Diet has 10 power foods that are chosen because they are rich in nutrients with few calories. Strawberries are one of these foods. There are only 45 calories in a cup of strawberries and they have 4 grams of fiber. Strawberries have more vitamin C than citrus fruit and are believed to be anti-inflammatory. They are also high in folate, potassium and antioxidants. They also offer some protection against cancer and heart disease.     I am fortunate to live in California where we also have fresh strawberries. I can get them year round at the local farmer’s market but this time of year is the peak season. I picked up a 3 pack yesterday for $5. The strawberries are incredibly sweet! They are very ripe and should be eaten soon, I will probably finish them up tomorrow. Buying locally is good for the economy and also good for getting the freshest produce.
